The Well Below The Valley

£75.00

A unique first edition Artists book containing 17 illustrations set to the medieval folk ballad The Well Below The Valley, created in an edition of 10. Signed and numbered on the title page. No AI is ever used, at any stage, in any of my work.

The result of months of labour, each of the 17 illustrations were cut from lino, placed with uniquely customised letterpress type and hand printed by the artist using traditional methods. The printed pages were then folded and hand bound using the Coptic method.

The book faithfully draws from the pulp pamphlets produced during the 1500’s, including the use of the medial or long S (The one that looks like an f.) which was standard at that time, period accurate ‘mistakes’ - an upside-down illustration and the occasional mirrored letter, and other marks that are common in surviving museum examples, done in such a fashion so as to not impact the quality, readability or overall feel of the book.

Printed on Five Seasons off white paper, bound with red linen thread and with Olympic millboard covers. Book dimensions 16×10.75 cm, Illustration platemark 10×7 cm.
